Deezer has revealed that an astonishing 34% of all new music uploaded to its platform is now AI-generated, equating to over 50,000 AI-created tracks each day. A study commissioned by Deezer found that 97% of listeners are unable to distinguish between AI music and human-made tracks, underscoring the effectiveness of AI tools that have made music production accessible to the masses. While the volume of AI-generated music has surged, it still represents a mere 0.5% of total streams, signaling that listeners generally prefer authentic artist creations. This growing prevalence of AI music has sparked significant concerns within the music industry regarding the implications for artists’ livelihoods, especially as many are apprehensive about AI models trained on copyrighted works without consent. Nearly 80% of respondents in the study believe AI-generated music should be distinctly labeled on streaming platforms, indicating a demand for transparency. In response, Deezer is actively developing tools to detect and tag AI-generated tracks as part of a broader initiative to manage the influx of low-cost music production, while raising critical questions about the future of artistry and the value of music in this evolving landscape.
