CIOs are being lumped with AI responsibilities - and many of them aren't happy with that (www.techradar.com)

Salesforce research finds that as organizations move from AI experiments to broader deployments, Chief Information Officers are increasingly being saddled with AI responsibilities — and while many are accepting the shift, important gaps remain. CIOs report stronger ties with CEOs and CFOs and more cross-functional work with customer service, finance, HR, marketing and sales; three in four say they feel more confident than a year ago and 97% say their AI knowledge has increased. But collaboration with Chief Data Officers and Chief Technology Officers is relatively weak, even though data and systems integration are core to effective AI programs. That mismatch matters for the AI/ML community because security, privacy and data governance are lagging behind deployment. The survey highlights that data security is the top AI concern, yet only about 14% of IT budgets go to data security and CDO/CTO engagement is low — a recipe for operational, compliance and model-risk issues as scale increases. The takeaway: successful enterprise AI will require clearer role definitions, targeted upskilling for CIO offices, and tighter cross-team processes (data governance, security, and engineering) to close gaps between deployment ambitions and safe, auditable production use.
