Microsoft, NVIDIA and Anthropic announce strategic partnerships (www.anthropic.com)

Microsoft, NVIDIA and Anthropic unveiled a multi-pronged strategic partnership that will put Anthropic’s Claude models broadly on Microsoft Azure and integrate Claude across Microsoft’s Copilot family (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio) and Microsoft Foundry. Anthropic committed to purchase roughly $30 billion of Azure compute and to provision up to one gigawatt of capacity initially, while NVIDIA and Microsoft pledged up to $10 billion and $5 billion of investment in Anthropic, respectively. Anthropic’s frontier models (Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, Claude Haiku 4.5) will be available to enterprise Azure customers, making Claude the only “frontier” model offered across the three major cloud providers. Technically, Anthropic and NVIDIA are entering a deep co‑design and engineering collaboration to optimize Claude for NVIDIA hardware (including Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems), aiming to improve inference/training performance, efficiency and total cost of ownership. The deal signals increased hardware-software integration — large-scale compute commitments, model-hardware tuning, and capital investment — that will accelerate Anthropic’s scaling while intensifying cloud and model competition. Notably, Amazon remains Anthropic’s primary cloud and training partner, so this is a multi-cloud expansion rather than an exclusive migration.
