Marimo Is Joining CoreWeave (marimo.io)

Marimo is joining CoreWeave. The marimo team and open-source project will continue operating under a permissive license and the same public roadmap, but with CoreWeave’s cloud scale and engineering resources to accelerate development. CoreWeave will power molab (marimo’s free, cloud-hosted notebook) with larger instances, GPU-accelerated compute, longer-lived sessions, and a more generous free tier — while the core open-source marimo notebook remains free, community-led, and staffed by the same team. Technically, marimo is a next-gen reactive Python notebook built from scratch (no Jupyter/IPython dependency) that stores notebooks as pure Python for reproducibility, scriptability, and reuse. It eliminates hidden state, includes SQL integration, can run in-browser via WebAssembly, supports sharing as apps/scripts, and has been an early adopter of AI-assisted workflows (Agent Client Protocol). The project already has strong traction — ~1M monthly downloads, 16.6k GitHub stars, ~200 contributors — and joining CoreWeave promises practical gains for AI/ML workflows: easier access to GPU-backed experiments, scalable cloud environments for data science pipelines, and continued open development. The team is hiring and commits to building in the open alongside its community.
