Zoom is building that future with “AI Companion” features including “digital twins” (virtual avatars that can attend meetings or calls), automated note-taking, email triage, and agent-driven planning or negotiation. Yuan demonstrated an AI avatar on an earnings call and said Zoom is investing heavily in AI, including a partnership with Nvidia to speed up reasoning and real-time automation across meetings, whiteboards and collaborative documents. For the AI/ML community this marks a pivot from connectivity to agency: platforms will increasingly stand in for people, running asynchronous workflows and offloading repetitive cognitive tasks. The Nvidia collaboration signals emphasis on low-latency inference, model optimization and GPU-accelerated reasoning to enable real-time agent behavior. That carries big implications — productivity gains and new UX patterns, but also technical and governance challenges around reliability, hallucinations, identity/consent, auditability and legal accountability if agents negotiate or make decisions on our behalf. Practical adoption will depend on robust evaluation, safety guardrails and measurable ROI before organizations confidently shorten working weeks.
