Meta is reshuffling leadership of its metaverse efforts while doubling down on AI integration: Vishal Shah is leaving his role leading the Metaverse Product Group to become VP of AI Products within Meta Superintelligence Labs’ Products & Applied Research unit, reporting to Nat Friedman. Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s CTO, confirmed in an internal memo that Gabriel Aul will now head the Metaverse PG (focusing on VR and mobile experiences and Horizon experiences leadership) and Ryan Cairns will run Horizon OS as an org-level product group reporting to Bosworth. Meta told Business Insider the moves are confirmed internally. The changes signal a tighter coupling between the metaverse roadmap and Meta’s push for “personal superintelligence.” Memos highlight concrete technical priorities: higher-fidelity, higher-concurrency Horizon engine work, photorealistic codec avatars, Horizon Mobile, AI-centric creation tools to accelerate world-building, and an integrated hardware/software Horizon OS roadmap. Bosworth stressed the metaverse remains a companywide priority, while Shah’s new role will oversee integrations of personal superintelligence across the Family of Apps (FoA) and Reality Labs (RL).
