Meta announced a leadership reshuffle that moves Vishal Shah, who spent four years leading its metaverse product efforts, from Reality Labs to Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) as VP of AI Products in Products & Applied Research, reporting to Nat Friedman. Shah’s brief says he’ll focus on product management and cross-company integrations to deliver “personal superintelligence” across the Family of Apps (FoA) and Reality Labs (RL). Meanwhile CTO Andrew Bosworth tapped Gabriel Aul to run the Metaverse Product Group (Horizon experiences and mobile) and kept Ryan Cairns as head of Horizon OS (hardware + OS), with Saxs Person joining to lead Horizon Experiences — signaling continued investment in VR, mobile worlds, and an integrated device/platform roadmap. For the AI/ML community this is significant because it tightens the engineering and product link between Meta’s advanced AI research and its metaverse stack. Shah’s move implies Meta will prioritize embedding generative AI, context-aware agents, and personalization (“personal superintelligence”) into avatar systems, the Horizon engine (higher concurrency/fidelity), photorealistic codec avatars, and AI-assisted world-building tools. The reorg suggests Meta sees AI as the key accelerator for scaling experiences across devices and apps — a sign that future ML efforts will target real-time, multimodal, and systems-level integration across VR hardware, mobile clients, and social platforms.
