OpenAI updated Sora 2 with two major upgrades: free users can now generate videos up to 15 seconds (up from ~10s), while Pro subscribers (the $200/£200/month tier) can render up to 25 seconds. In addition, Pro users gain access to a new Storyboard feature on the web that lets creators stitch multiple AI-generated clips into multi-scene videos. The changes were announced in OpenAI’s Oct. 16, 2025 update; Sora 2 is currently available in the U.S. and Canada via the Sora app and web, with broader rollout pending. Technically, longer outputs and a storyboard workflow raise the bar for temporal coherence, scene continuity and editing controls in generative video models—enabling more cinematic, multi-shot narratives rather than single-shot vignettes. For creators this expands use cases (short ads, social clips, rapid prototyping), but it also intensifies risks around realistic deepfakes and misinformation: longer, multi-scene videos are harder to spot and harder for automated detectors to analyze. The move therefore strengthens both the product and the urgency for provenance, watermarking and moderation tools, and signals that generative-video platforms are shifting from toy experiments to production-grade storytelling tools.
