Meta announced a major roadmap update for Lix: a formal governance model (core, committer, community teams) with explicit code ownership via Gerrit, a move to Zulip for structured developer discussion (while keeping Matrix for quick chat and planning a Matrix–Zulip bridge), and new nonprofit hosting under AFNix to provide EU legal presence, donation handling, and infrastructure stewardship. These changes make it clearer how contributors can gain commit rights, improve long-term sustainability, and give the project policies and organizational support that matter for open-source stability and stewardship. On the infrastructure side Lix detailed current CI hardware (an EPYC 7763 x86_64 host shared amongst projects, two Ampere Altra Q80-30 aarch64 CPUs, and overloaded aarch64-darwin Scaleway Macs) and the operational problems they faced—aggressive scrapers causing heavy API load, database corruption, and very slow Darwin CI (99th percentile wait ~22 hours). AFNix supplied two Mac Mini M2s which are now in CI but likely insufficient long-term; the team is optimizing systems and may seek community funding through AFNix. For AI/ML users the implications are practical: better governance and communication speed up reproducible packaging and platform support, but macOS/Apple Silicon build capacity remains a bottleneck—contributors for macOS maintenance and funding help are explicitly requested.
