An Independent Evaluation of TypeSafe's Jev (www.vals.ai)

TypeSafe has introduced Jev, a novel AI model that leverages state-based input, delivering answers in the form of probability distributions based on user-defined questions and permitted responses. Unlike traditional text generation models, Jev excels in tasks like claim verification and legal reasoning, achieving competitive accuracy rates while significantly reducing operational costs—just $0.042 per million tokens for input and free output. In recent evaluations, Jev matched state-of-the-art models like GPT-6 Astra in claim verification accuracy, achieving scores of 0.975 while costing 1/498th the price. While Jev demonstrated impressive capabilities in claim verification, it fell short in the LegalBench tasks, ranking lowest among twelve systems. However, its ability to process judgments rapidly—about a tenth of a second per query—while automating 95% of cases at a mere 1.6% error rate highlights its scalability potential.
