Cloudflare has announced the general availability of its AI Search, a fully managed index and retrieval solution that incorporates Workers AI, Vectorize, R2, and Browser Run. This product enhances search capabilities across various formats, including support for native image embeddings, optical character recognition (OCR) for PDFs, and larger file sizes, helping developers optimize search experiences for diverse applications. The new multimodal embedding allows AI Search to preserve both visual details from images and their accompanying textual descriptions, enhancing the quality and relevance of search results. This update is significant for the AI/ML community as it showcases a leap towards more sophisticated multimodal retrieval systems, enabling searches that are not only keyword-based but also visually driven. With the integration of Matryoshka Representation Learning (MRL), AI Search ensures efficient storage and rapid search results while retaining detailed information from both images and text. Additionally, the improved billing structure introduces a transparent pricing model, allowing users to estimate costs based on content ingestion, data storage, and query volume. Looking forward, Cloudflare plans to expand this offering to include video and audio processing, further enriching the capabilities of AI Search.
