World Labs has announced its acquisition by AMD, marking a significant step in enhancing AI capabilities focused on spatial and physical problem-solving. Founded in 2024, World Labs has made notable advancements in AI research, which paved the way for a deep partnership with AMD centered on optimizing model training and inference on AMD GPUs. This collaboration aims to integrate their AI software and hardware ecosystems, leveraging their combined expertise to drive innovation in foundational models and applications. One of the most prominent changes resulting from this merger is the appointment of Dr. Fei-Fei Li as AMD's Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist. She will lead efforts to establish a comprehensive open AI ecosystem that encompasses hardware, software, and widely available AI models. Alongside Justin Johnson and Ben Mildenhall, she aims to build a world-class research organization, with ambitions for a more scalable and integrated approach to AI deployment.
