What I Did at RC (thill.me)

The Recurse Center (RC) recently showcased a vibrant summer of AI and programming exploration, where participants engaged in collaborative study groups and hands-on projects. Highlights included a diverse array of activities such as building agent-based AI to play games, exploring modern LLMs (Large Language Models), and developing deep learning models using insights from “Practical Deep Learning.” Participants also delved into unique math projects, resulting in creative generative art and even programming languages, highlighting a practical approach to learning through experimentation and collaboration. Significantly, the experiences at RC underline the importance of community in advancing AI and ML knowledge. Participants tackled complex subjects such as AI strategy modeling and neural network interpretation within a supportive environment, facilitating deeper understanding without requiring a profound research background. Notably, the reimplementation of the DEFLATE compression algorithm using Rust reflects a push towards tackling foundational algorithms in programming.
