VMware has announced the launch of its Private AI Cloud, designed to address the rising demand for on-premises AI workloads as enterprises transition from experimental deployments to large-scale production. This shift is driven by ongoing concerns around costs, data sovereignty, and security in public cloud environments. According to research firm Omdia, global datacenter investments are expected to reach nearly $1.6 trillion by 2030, with organizations increasingly choosing private clouds for their AI applications due to lower costs and enhanced security measures. VMware's Private AI Cloud builds on VMware Cloud Foundation 9 and incorporates the VMware AI Factory model-as-a-service, which provides a comprehensive infrastructure for AI workloads. The VMware AI Factory aims to simplify the complex process of setting up AI infrastructure by offering integrated packages that include server hardware, networking, and software orchestrated via MetalSoft's platform. This solution supports a variety of GPUs from major vendors and spans over 150 open and commercial AI models, enhancing flexibility for users. New features in VMware's offerings include secure AI sandboxes, improved model governance, and advanced security measures such as zero-trust protocols, aiming to address the unique risks associated with autonomous AI agents.
