Check if a file was made with Claude (claude.com)

A new tool has been launched that lets users determine if a file was created or edited using Claude, an AI model developed by Anthropic. By uploading a file, users can check for a C2PA content credential, which records information about the creation or modification of the content, including whether Claude was involved. This feature is significant for the AI/ML community as it enhances transparency regarding the origins of digital content, helping to build trust in an era increasingly fraught with AI-generated misinformation. While the tool can confirm the involvement of Claude, it does have limitations. A detected C2PA credential indicates Claude's involvement, but a lack of such a signal doesn't necessarily rule out Claude's participation; the credential may have been removed or the content could originate from another AI model that doesn’t support this marking system. Importantly, user privacy is maintained as uploaded files remain on the user's device and are not stored or repurposed by the tool, ensuring that the integrity of the original file is preserved while enabling critical verification of its origins.
