NVIDIA co-founder Jensen Huang announced a strategic partnership with SB Energy to secure Land, Power, and Shell (LPS) capacity at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Portsmouth, Ohio, marking a significant milestone in establishing AI factories that will serve as critical infrastructure for the AI era. With OpenAI set to operate an AI factory at this site, NVIDIA's commitment aims to address the growing demand for compute resources among frontier AI labs, which often struggle to secure the necessary infrastructure independently despite having strong market demand. The PORTS-Pike facility is designed to support an initial capacity of 4.25 gigawatts and could eventually host up to 16 gigawatts of NVIDIA compute. Each iteration of NVIDIA's AI factory systems—capable of housing up to 1.5 million GPUs—could represent substantial revenue streams, projected between $150 billion to $200 billion over the site’s long lifespan.
