AMD has unveiled its latest generation of GPUs in the MI400 series, featuring the MI430X and MI455X, with the MI430X boasting a groundbreaking performance figure of 288 TFLOPS in FP64, positioning it as the fastest of its kind ever built. However, researchers and sovereign AI clients will need to wait until early 2027 for availability. While both GPUs share the same 432GB HBM4 memory and are built on the CNDA 5 architecture, they cater to different market needs. The MI455X targets AI data centers, emphasizing FP4 and FP8 performance for training and inference workloads, whereas the MI430X is designed for high-performance computing (HPC) applications that require greater precision. This launch highlights AMD's strategic focus on both sovereign AI applications and the broader AI ecosystem, as characterized by its partnerships with significant entities such as the U.S. Department of Energy and Oracle.
