MCPA: The First Official Certification for the Model Context Protocol (aaif.io)

The Agentic AI Foundation, part of the Linux Foundation, has announced the launch of the Model Context Protocol Associate (MCPA), the first official certification for the Model Context Protocol (MCP). As MCP has rapidly become the standard for connecting AI applications to external tools and services, this certification aims to establish a baseline of understanding among AI professionals. The MCPA certification will validate candidates’ expertise in MCP’s concepts, architecture, and implementation strategies, allowing teams to trust those who claim proficiency in this essential protocol. The certification exam covers five key areas: MCP fundamentals, architecture and components, interactions and execution, security and governance, and use cases & ecosystem. Designed for those familiar with message-based protocols and basic security concepts, the MCPA is a beginner-level, vendor-neutral credential that lasts for two years and includes opportunities for retaking the exam. With the MCP seen as foundational infrastructure for agentic AI, gaining this certification not only enhances individual expertise but also helps to elevate industry standards as the AI landscape evolves.
