Bitrise has announced the beta launch of its Remote Dev Environments (RDE), designed to address the growing gap between AI-assisted coding and the bottlenecks in development environments. Over the past year, the use of AI-assisted builds surged 164 times, yet the rate at which teams shipped code to users dropped by more than 20%. This disparity highlights that while AI is enhancing coding productivity, the subsequent building and testing processes are lagging due to inadequate environments. RDE allows developers and AI agents to code in the same stable environment where builds and tests are executed, effectively eliminating the "works on my machine" syndrome and reducing the discrepancies that lead to wasted time and resources. RDE operates on the same virtual machines and stacks as Bitrise’s CI and Build Hub, ensuring consistency and reliability. Engineers can connect their preferred coding agents, such as Claude Code or Codex, and work seamlessly with the necessary tools in a cloud environment tailored for their projects. This infrastructure not only scales better than traditional laptop setups but also streamlines the development process by minimizing setup issues and maximizing productivity. By removing the constraints of environment drift, Bitrise RDE hopes to empower software engineers and AI agents alike, paving the way for faster, more efficient development workflows.
