Anthropic has unveiled Claude Sonnet 5, its most advanced agentic model to date, designed for more autonomous operation at a lower cost. This new model can execute complex tasks like coding and tool usage, previously requiring more expensive models. Notably, Claude Sonnet 5 outperforms its predecessor, Sonnet 4.6, in key areas such as reasoning and tool handling while demonstrating a significant reduction in undesirable behaviors. It’s positioned to compete closely with the higher-end Opus class models but provides a cost-effective alternative for developers aiming for enhanced functionality.
