A recent survey conducted among over 2,000 London business leaders has revealed that half of the companies believe their workforce lacks the necessary skills to meet the demands of AI integration. Although this figure represents an improvement from 63% last year, the overall shortage of skills has notably increased. The percentage of businesses reporting significant skill shortages surged from 4% to 15%, highlighting alarming gaps even in basic digital literacy, with 23% of companies identifying a lack of essential digital skills. Despite these challenges, 83% of businesses report job vacancies and three-quarters do not anticipate layoffs, suggesting a complex relationship between AI adoption and job creation. This situation underscores a critical moment for the AI and machine learning community, as the skills gap poses a significant barrier to harnessing AI's full potential. In response, 81% of London businesses plan to increase their training investment over the next year.
