Block rolls out Builderbot, a new suite of AI-native tools (block.xyz)

Block has announced Builderbot, a groundbreaking suite of AI-native tools designed to enhance engineering workflows by integrating AI at scale. After two years of investments in AI, including open sourcing their agent framework, goose, and collaborating with Anthropic on the Model Context Protocol, Block found that existing coding tools couldn't effectively manage their vast codebase. Builderbot addresses this challenge by serving as an orchestration layer that coordinates multiple AI agents across hundreds of services, allowing engineers to leverage AI directly within Slack. This tool streamlines tasks such as bug fixes and feature implementations, significantly reducing development times from months to days. The significance of Builderbot lies in its ability to process over 200,000 operations daily and merge 1,500 pull requests weekly, representing around 15% of all production code changes at Block. According to Brad Axen, Head of AI Capabilities, Builderbot fills a crucial gap between traditional AI coding tools and the complexities of engineering at scale, enabling human engineers to focus on higher-level decisions rather than repetitive tasks.
