I built an offline, browser-based text anonymizer to use AI safely (ghostit.online)

A new browser-based text anonymizer has been developed to enhance privacy when using AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. This offline tool allows users to detect and redact personal information such as names, emails, and IDs, ensuring that sensitive data remains secure before it is shared. Notably, it offers a Custom Dictionary feature for saving internal project names and codes, with cloud synchronization for ease of use, although users should opt for the Local Engine for stringent privacy needs. This innovation is significant for the AI/ML community as it addresses ongoing concerns regarding data privacy and security when interacting with AI models. The hybrid Local Engine employs advanced algorithms to cross-reference inputs against thousands of regional names and handle complex ID patterns, all while maintaining a zero-storage policy—meaning no data is logged or stored. Additionally, the tool operates completely offline, eliminating any risk associated with cloud processing, making it a crucial resource for professionals handling sensitive information under strict data protection requirements.
