Apple's new Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence, will not be available to users in the European Union with the upcoming releases of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 due to regulatory issues surrounding the Digital Markets Act (DMA). EU regulators rejected Apple’s proposals designed to enable Siri AI while ensuring user privacy and security, leaving EU iPhone and iPad users without access to advanced capabilities like a dedicated app for conversation history, enhanced Visual Intelligence, and new Siri tools in the camera. However, Siri AI will still be accessible on macOS 27, visionOS 27, and watchOS 27. This delay is significant for the AI/ML community as it highlights the challenges tech companies face in balancing innovation and compliance with regulatory frameworks aimed at protecting user data. The DMA's stringent requirements demand virtually unrestricted access for virtual assistants, raising critical concerns about user privacy and security.
