Open Source Initiative Helps G7 Deliver Vision on AI Openness (opensource.org)

On May 29, 2026, G7 Digital and Technology ministers approved a "Vision on AI openness opportunities and shared language," established through a partnership with the Open Source Initiative (OSI). This landmark vision aims to clarify terminology and criteria around AI openness, underscoring the essential contributions of the Open Source community in shaping AI transparency. It introduces specific labeling for AI models, distinguishing between "Weights Available" for proprietary models and "Open Weights" for those under Open Source licenses.
