Fields of the World: A Global Field Boundary Ecosystem (fieldsofthe.world)

Fields of The World (FTW) has launched an open ecosystem aimed at revolutionizing agricultural field boundary detection. This initiative combines a global benchmark dataset featuring over 3.17 billion polygons, baseline machine learning models, and user-friendly inference tools, all utilizing open Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. The FTW aims to address the significant issue of incomplete agricultural mapping in many countries, enabling crucial applications in land use monitoring, food security assessments, and crop analysis globally. This development is significant for the AI/ML community as it not only provides a robust framework for training and evaluating models in agricultural monitoring but also fosters collaboration through its open-source approach.
