For instance, one reported method involved embedding malware in fake invoice PDFs that redirected victims to compromised sites, while another utilized a "piggyback" attack hidden within counterfeit Teams installers, effectively masking the infection during legitimate software installations. This trend is significant for the AI/ML community as it highlights a shift in how cyber threats are evolving, leveraging accessible AI tools to streamline malicious activities. The study reveals that even attacks using basic tactics have successfully infiltrated systems; around 14% of malicious emails evaded at least one email gateway scanner.
