Meta has announced a groundbreaking partnership with NVIDIA to integrate "confidential computing" technology within WhatsApp, marking a significant advancement in user data security and AI functionality for the messaging platform. By purchasing "millions" of NVIDIA's Blackwell and Rubin GPUs, Meta aims to enhance WhatsApp with AI-powered capabilities while ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of user data during computation. This approach allows sensitive information to be protected not only when it is transmitted but also while being processed, addressing key privacy concerns. In addition to leveraging NVIDIA's Confidential Computing, Meta will be the first to deploy NVIDIA’s Grace CPUs as stand-alone units, tailored for running AI inference and other advanced workloads.
