A new report from Ivanti reveals a significant gap in AI adoption within the cybersecurity sector, highlighting that while 91% of UK security teams view the integration of next-generation AI as crucial, only about half are effectively implementing it in key workflows. This disparity is largely attributed to a skills shortage and inadequate policy enforcement, emphasizing the ongoing challenges in fully leveraging AI's capabilities for cybersecurity functions like incident response and threat intelligence. The report underscores the dual role of AI in cybersecurity; while it is recognized for its potential to enhance response times—93% of professionals affirm this—actual deployment remains low, with only 56% utilizing AI in cloud security. Concurrently, cybercriminals are also utilizing AI, evidenced by the fact that 76% of UK organizations have faced deepfake attacks, which adds urgency to the need for a comprehensive upskilling of personnel, including high-level executives. As Ivanti's Chief Security Officer Daniel Spicer points out, organizations are increasingly outmatched in defending against evolving threats, indicating a pressing need for investment in education and skill development within the AI landscape.
