Google now lets you share your custom Gemini AI assistants known as Gems (techcrunch.com)

Google announced that users can now share their custom Gemini "Gems"—specialized AI assistants built by writing task-specific instructions—just as easily as sharing a Google Drive file. Gems, which launched last year as part of the paid Gemini Advanced tier and included premade assistants like a learning coach, brainstorming partner, career guide, writing editor, and coding helper, are shared from the Gem manager on the Gemini web app by clicking a “Share” icon. Sharing supports Drive-like permissions so creators can control who can view, use, or edit a Gem. The change matters because it lowers the barrier to using curated assistants, prevents redundant creation across teams or families, and improves consistency and collaboration: coworkers can adopt the same vetted assistant rather than each building slightly different versions. Technically, the capability follows Gems’ broader rollout—from Advanced, Business, and Enterprise subscribers in 150+ countries to general availability in March, with support for file uploads—so shared Gems can include richer, file-backed workflows. For organizations, the feature enhances reuse, governance, and reproducibility of prompts and behaviors; for casual users, it simplifies sharing meal planners, trip guides, or joint writing tools.
