Ifrro member Kopinor signs agreement on newspaper content for AI in Norway (ifrro.org)

Kopinor, a member of IFRRO, has made headlines by signing a groundbreaking agreement with the National Library of Norway, allowing the use of Norwegian newspaper content for the training of AI models. This historic deal, signed on December 19, 2025, marks Norway as the first country globally to formalize such an arrangement, with NOK 45 million in annual funding from the Norwegian state. The agreement permits access to content that is over a year old to help develop language models for both Norwegian and Sami languages. These models will be made accessible to public and private entities, providing a foundation for innovative AI services. The first language models are anticipated to launch in early 2026, potentially revolutionizing the landscape of AI applications in Norway by fostering localized language technologies and promoting diversity in AI training data.
